Linux is a well designed operating system designed to
bring any computer to maximum performance, but, it is
highly difficult to configure lynix unless your machine
meets a small variety of specifications. Once configured
a Linux machine will far out perform any Windows based system.
Though I am not well skilled in the Unix base system of Linux,
I like the setup of X Windows which is the GUI for Linux.
GUI's in Linux/Unix are very new, and so run slow on older machines,
but if you learn your Unix commands you can run your Linux command shell
better than any windows system. I am still highly unskilled in Unix comands
but plan to become more familiar with them. The Unix Command Line system
of Linux is not as easy as DOS, but then again, it is many times more efficient
once you know what you are doing.
Though Linux is a highly capable OS, unless you can get X Windows configured
it is difficult to understand without the proper training. For a person who
has never used the DOS shell command line, the Unix shell command line interface
would be virtually imposible to just pick up and do. I have used Windows, and DOS
for many years but have realized that they place many restrictions on the user, and
have inadequate security devices and may cause an overly secure feeling of safety
with personal information. Windows has many security breeches, and may be bypassed
with basic DOS Commands. Linux, on the other hand is not very user friendly and is
not suggested for those who have little or no computer knowledge.
